Dr. Ansari is a board-certified Geriatrician and Internal Medicine specialist with over two decades of dedicated experience in caring for older adults. Her medical journey began with residency training in Internal Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), followed by a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at OHSU and the Portland VA Medical Center. Her passion for geriatric care, particularly dementia and end-of-life support, has guided her distinguished career as both a clinician and educator.
From 2003 to 2021, Dr. Ansari served as a Clinical Faculty Member at the Portland VA, where she led the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment Clinic. There, she trained Internal Medicine residents, Geriatric fellows, and allied health professionals in delivering patient-centered, geriatric-focused care. She also held roles as a Clinical Educator and Instructor, mentoring students from the University of Washington, OHSU, and Madigan Army Medical Center, as well as supporting international medical graduates pursuing training opportunities in the United States.
Her philosophy of care is rooted in treating the “whole person.” Dr. Ansari takes a holistic approach that goes beyond medical diagnosis—addressing the psychological, emotional, social, and functional aspects of aging. She recognizes that aging is a complex, deeply personal journey and believes that compassionate, comprehensive care is essential to support both patients and caregivers.
As the former Medical Director for a specialty Geriatric clinic at the Puget Sound VA, Dr. Ansari managed the care of medically complex older adults across a variety of healthcare settings, including outpatient clinics, inpatient units, emergency departments, skilled nursing facilities, rehab centers, hospice, home care, and care transitions.
Her clinical focus includes the diagnosis, management, and progression of dementia, along with its profound impact on individuals and their families. Dr. Ansari is committed to improving quality of life through personalized care strategies and thoughtful support during the entire continuum of end-of-life care.
In addition, her academic interests span the intersection of aging, psychological well-being, and physiological resilience. She explores how behavioral, social, and emotional factors influence stress response, immune function, cognitive health, and the development of age-related chronic conditions. Her goal is to develop practical, evidence-based interventions that improve mental health, cognition, pain management, and overall well-being in older adults.
With her extensive clinical experience, academic contributions, and compassionate patient approach, Dr. Ansari continues to be a leader in the field of Geriatric Medicine—advocating for the dignity, autonomy, and quality of life of every patient she serves.
